What gets my heart going lately and other songs
The current mood is one of throwing caution to the wind. Dancing down the street and down the winter blues. Feeling it all at once because life is too short.
Plus it is February.
I’ve been thinking about a playlist for Valentine’s Day, pondering music that could bring on feelings of love and excitement, while also pausing to feel some of the downsides of love, like heartbreak too.
If music be the food of love, play on.
William Shakespeare
Top Song: Dare Me by the Pointer Sisters. When I hear this song begin to play, the music flips a switch and on comes excitement and anticipation with the beats of this 70’s song. Bonus, the music video is big shoulder pads and fun.
I wanna take you on
I know I can’t lose
I’ll be loving you
If you just dare me
Other top songs:
Leather and Lace – Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
Shoop – Salt-N-Pepa
Easy Lover – Ellie Goulding feat. Big Sean
Would I Lie to You – Charles and Eddie
All I Need – Radiohead
Other, also good songs:
The Hardest Part – Olivia Dean
He Won’t Go – Adele
Sexy Boy – Air
Listen to the Music – The Doobie Brothers
Wild cards:
Right on Time– Madonna
Homewrecker – sombr
LMK – Kelela
Jealous Type – Doja Cat
Music is love in search of a word.
Sidney Lanier

Predictable (and Overtly About) Love songs:
Love Song – Justin Bieber
Bliss – Tyla
Love – Kendrick Lamar
Someone to Call My Lover – Janet Jackson
Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces.
Rumi
When I was younger, my friends and I would dedicate ourselves to making the perfect playlist and recording it onto a tape and later a cd. This was the ultimate Valentine’s gift to either give or receive. I remember one mix I was given, lots of ska and other grunge type pumpy-upy music. I loved it.
Like the Pointer Sisters sing in Dare Me, “I say you’re either a lover or you are a liar.”
