Some hold on to things too long after a relationship has ended. They keep the love letter, the texts, the dried flowers, the t-shirt, the phone number long after the ship has sailed…and in reality sunk.

I think of it a bit like tidying my closet. I need to make room for the new clothes by releasing the old. I do not keep all the clothes I’ve ever had in there, that would be strange and take up all the space. And be a home for all sorts of yuck. Rats? I don’t know? But it doesn’t sound good.

Once I knew someone who had an ex-partner’s phone number in their phone, and they were an ex of over 20 years! He refused to let her go, and in essence, to free himself.
