The free, yet priceless gift
In my recent chapter of life showing up has literally been half the battle. And it has been hard won. The ask has meant giving energy, effort, and time; what I have come to know as treasured spoils of this life.
The other half of the battle? Being present. Giving of your attention. Sometimes being present is lightheartedly called “the gift,” for its play on words. However, it truly is a gift.
Show up, in a good head space, with good vibes.
To show up for someone and to be present for them, let’s all make this the new Valentine’s symbol, the sign of care and connection.
Turns out that though free and accessible, being present is hard. Looking someone in the eyes, deeply listening to them, sitting or walking with them, sharing thoughts and perspectives, is a vulnerable act.
Icing on the cake? No tech. No phones out on the table next to you. No checking the iWatch. No TV on. No texting.
