What reality tv taught me about dating
I sat down to watch a movie and instead clicked on what I thought would be a survivor-like-hotties-on-the-beach-competition.
I watched a reality tv show called Love Island. The location is on an “island” rooftop in Las Vegas. It was season two, filmed during the Pandemic. The show involves ridiculous parameters, I mean, really ridiculous. But something so fluffy turned out to be a little bit genius. I laughed a lot. I wondered at relationships and connection.
Something so fluffy turned out to be a little bit genius.
Also, the people on the show are roaming around in bathing suits, working out, or applying makeup half the time. Which is a bit like watching animals at the zoo or astronauts fix something outside the space station. Suddenly I’m not on my couch anymore.
Things I learned:
1. Love Language. Know yours and talk about this.
2. Date multiple people at once.
3. Talk. Pull people for chats. Be willing to put it out there.
4. Kiss. A lot.
5. Spend time on your appearance. Dress up. Wear lots of makeup.
6. Have friends. Discuss your relationship.
7. Don’t commit too soon.
8. Yell “I got a text” every time you get a text.
9. Workout.
10. It doesn’t take much to stir the pot. What appears settled and stable may not be. it just takes one new guy or girl.
11. The sexiest and most forward person typically burns hot, then fizzles.
12. Group dynamics are tough. It can be hard to be the new person joining a group.
13. Dates. Separate from group = good.
14. Take things slow romantically.
15. Take time to build and foster a connection.
